Frank's Ramblings: A$AP Rocky @ Irving Plaza
I was at this show last night, and it provided and interesting example of the evolving hip-hop milieu, and served as a cultural observation of New York City Youth. I was busy slugging beers w/ @brobs14 and missed Danny Brown, Flatbush Zombies, and someone else I can't remember. When I got up to the floor I realized A - I was the oldest person in the room, and B - I was in the ethnic majority (being a white American Jew). It was A$AP's first ticketed headline in NYC (that's just a guess) and thus I didn't really know what to expect. The tension in the high school nervous system was palpable, and when A$AP hit the stage everyone proceeded to poop their pants simultaneously. 2 of the most interesting takeaways was that the show was over before I could finish 2 tall-boys, and almost no one in the crowd recognized Bun B when he came out. The crowd did lose their 10th grade mind however when Wacka Floka was brought out which is evidenced in the video footage above. I tried to take some iPhone pics, but they all looked like shit, so enjoy somebody else's handiwork above. Oh and Schoolboy Q is a tiny little dude.
